Last month in Belgium

After a really busy return to Portugal and when everything is getting quite I finally got the chance to publish here the link for my last month picture summary.
The EVS experience was unique and if I had the chance I wouldn´t mind to repeat. But now the plans for the future are heading into another way and I have to follow my destiny.

Photography exhibition on Lusofonia in the Berlaymont Building

kamera.jpg
photo:Alexandre Almeida/ kameraphoto

The Portuguese Presidency of the EU Council and the Collective of Photographers Kameraphoto have the pleasure to announce the photography exhibition on Lusofonia, under the High Patronage of H.E. the President of the European Commission, which will take place from 5 to 30 November in the Berlaymont Building.

The long historical process of the Portuguese Discoveries gave rise to a rich cultural identity that nowadays is shared by several countries in the world. These countries are all united by a common past and by a common language enriched in its essence. These countries - Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East-Timor - together with their migrant communities, turn Portuguese into one of the world's major languages with over 200 million of native speakers.

Today, the concept of Lusofonia is not limited to Portugal or to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, but also to other territories that may not use the Portuguese language as its main language and rather use it due to historical and cultural ties with Portugal. Such countries are India (Goa) or China (Macau).

The photography exhibition in the Berlaymont allows to reveal the lusophone cultural identity and to show the binding element in such a diverse area around the globe. More than looking for the common past, the interest here is to understand and register different ways of living and being in today's world.

Portuguese Art in Brussels _ a piece from home

When we are abroad it is always funny to find things from our motherculture.
At the BOTANIQUE metro station, near where I live, everytime I go there I see Portuguese Art. Why? The tile panel in the platform was made by a famous Artist - Julio Pomar - and represents one of greatest Portuguese Poets - Fernando Pessoa.

Lucky to have friends!

Last weekend one of my best friends got married. It was hard, but i could not get there and be with all of my friends at the wedding. However, they found a solution and I "was" there all the time, with a big smile and full of energy!
Take a look to some of the pictures my Friends sent me:

Mobility Week

Check all the program for the mobility week at this link:

http://www.autolozezondag.irisnet.be/

logo_mobilite_06_C.jpg

Just like in Portugal, this week we are experiencing the mobility week. In Portugal each city organizes different activities. Usually we only do the 22nd of September, but like Brussels, some Portuguese cities are enlarging the program for a all week.
Are people receiving and understanding the message?
I believe so. In Oporto we start to see lots of people using Bikes, eventhough Oporto is not a flat city, and the number of public transport users is getting bigger every year, specially in Metro ( http://www.metrodoporto.pt/ ).
Oporto's traffic is caotic at rush hours and the city hall continues to let people to drive their car downtown, instead of using public transports. But people are getting awared about the traffic problem and try change the habit of driving everywhere.

autoestrada.jpg

We just need to remember some basic tips:
. use public transports or alternative and clean transport;
. live a better quality life
. get a cleaner and smoke free city
. pass the message
