Oegandese DJ Viscious was present op Mano Mundo

Met Change the DJ wil Vredeseilanden de brug slaan tussen België en Oeganda, tussen de Oegandese hoofdstad Kampala en het platteland, maar vooral tussen feestende mensen in beide landen. Een DJ die het nu in de Oegandese hoofstad Kampala laat swingen maar afkomstig is uit het landelijke oosten is Viscious. Van Kampala tot Mundindi village en Boom city, overal krijgt hij mensen aan het feesten.

In België ...

In januari 2008, naar aanleiding van het Vredeseilandenweekend, was DJ Viscious in België om Change the DJ mee te promoten en een Belgische DJ te selecteren. Het hoogtepunt van zijn bezoek in België speelde zich af in Antwerpen waar hij headliner was op het Change the DJ-event en de change the DJ-selectie ism Zappa. De keuze viel op DJ Tactile om feestjes te gaan bouwen in Oeganda.

In Oeganda ...

Op 16 maart vertrok DJ Tactile op reis voor de Oegandese finale van change the DJ. Hij trok samen met DJ Viscious door het land. Ook het oosten van Oeganda staat op hun programma. Daar werkt Vredeseilanden met boerenfamilies aan een betere toekomst. Sihubira is één van de partnerorganisaties waar de DJ's op bezoek gaan.

Céline Winnen (student journastiek) en Valerie Van de Peer (student communicatiemanagement) van de HAM in Mechelen zijn al een tijdje in Oeganda. Zij zullen een week meereizen met DJ Tactile. Volg hen op de voet via www.evennaaroeganda.be

Terug in België ...

Begin mei landde DJ Viscious op zijn beurt terug in België op uitnodiging van Mano Mundo. Change the DJ was immers de rode draad tussen het DJ aanbod op Mano Mundo. DJ Viscious opende o.a. samen met DJ Tactile de Zappaworld tent op zaterdag, speelde hij met Merdan Taplak op het coctailpodium op zaterdagavond en hij kroop op het podium bij Leki op zondag.

Ik had de kans om tussen de optredens en het feesten door enkele korte vragen te stellen aan DJ Viscious.

- How did you start as a musician?
It is something that I liked in my life very much and I started it with mobile discos in the village, then being a MC and DJ.

- Is it possible to make a living as a dj or a musician in Uganda? Is it hard to get there?
Its not easy to have it because we don't have equipments and its also difficult for the living.

- What is the greatest expierence of the exchange with VECO and with Belgian musicians?
Its realy a good idea to make a big link of the two countries, mostly to the farmers we have big hope that many things will change our villages.

- Can music build bridges between Belgium (Europe) and Uganda (Africa)?
Yes, its the best thing that can join people together, no matter where you come from, but when it's partytime we feel like we know eachother.

- How do you experience this in the project of VECO? (VECO = afkorting van Vredeseilanden)
For the time I have known VECO I think it's the best project.

- What was your experience on the Mano Mundo Festival?
It's to play on the big party, be on the big stages that I have never be on in my life, even been known in my country by many people.

- Is Uganda in the past year effected by the crises in Kenia, high prises of fuel and food?
Yes, in terms of transport, fuel price were high. Many people could find it difficult to travel and price of everything was geting high.

- What should Belgian people know about Uganda?
They should know that it's a nice country but we still need help for our people to go out of porverty.

- What is urgent to change in Uganda?
To help in the farming system with good seeds and host seminnors with farmers to get ideas on how they can work on their farms.
