The sun has just come out. Before arriving in Brussels I thought it would be much rarer to see it. Tomorrow will be three weeks since I arrived in Belgium, although I spent the first ten days in a training camp in the little Flemish town of Eeklo.

I have had time to do many things in these three weeks, among them, the first three videos for Indymedia, which are now posted, and available through my profile. I have learnt a lot so far. I particularly enjoyed going out on Friday of last week and filming the action of "Critical Mass", an event in which people emphasize the use of bicycles instead of cars. Learning about the filming itself was very interesting and it was also interesting to speak with some of the people taking part in it.

On Saturday I went out again and filmed other volunteers who were acting for the camera to show how difficult is cycling in Brussels. And it is! I got the chance to do it myself a bit, and with so many cars and no bike lanes I found it a bit daunting. Nothing to do with Amsterdam, or Eeklo itself for instance. ]

Sunday was the best day though. I got up early to pick up my first visit in Brussels at Zuid Station, and found out that what I heard about the car free Sunday is acutually true. The whole city had been taken by bikes. There were hardly any taxis and a the usual buses and trams. Brussels should be like this everyday I say. Or at least once a week.

On Sunday I also did filming. I was on my own and had no confidence to make any interviews with my broken French, so I focused on getting some good pictures. Tomorrow I will work on the video that is supposed to come out of it, so we will see.

And there goes the second week.

I have so far found out that in Brussels you can talk to pretty much anyone for no reason and it's not strange. That everything is within walking distance of everything else. That there will not be enough days in this year to try all types of biers. That it's hard to find a toilet you don't have to pay for... Well, these are the things I have found amusing. And yesterday I found a nice cafe in the center where I sat down with my laptop and read a really old e-mail while having a Duvel Verte that seemed to be the thing to read at the moment! Perhaps this will be the first thought that I remember of this year.
