The invasion of Iraq and the continued occupation and destruction of that unfortunate country composes a criminal act of staggering magnitude. It is emblematic of the imperial arrogance of US rulers who presume the right to condemn and destroy any nation that refuses to obediently fit itself into the yoke of US-directed free-market globalism. One hopeful sign is that this violent imperial policy continues to incite popular opposition in countries throughout the world. Even in the United States, support for the war has dwindled to about 20 percent despite the endless barrage of propaganda that the White House feeds to the U.S. people. Ultimately the only antidote to elite-driven militaristic and economic coercion is mass opposition and resistance by the democratic forces of the world whose interests are never served by violence and aggression.
