Newly elected body of UKPNP has addressed a press conference in Rawalakot (POK)

Respected Journalists: We welcome you on behalf of United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP), that you came here on our invitation to perform your professional duties.
Journalists: Since its inception United Kashmir People’s National Party is peacefully striving for the unification and independence of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. We stood for a progressive and secular society. We have courageously exposed internal and external foes of our rights and in this path we never fell in opportunism or compromise on our national cause.
Journalists: Today entire Pakistani state and society is encompassed by terrorism, communalism and fanaticism. Poverty, unemployment and social unrest are increasing day by day. It is all due to those cold war era policies of Pakistani state institutions and security establishment and policy makers that’s why entire south Asian region has been destabilised today.
Respected Journalists: The brave and blunt leadership of United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) had heralded Kashmiri and Pakistani people that use of religion as weapon against their neighbours would have dire consequences for the entire region and simultaneously for the whole world. Despite taking note of our concerns Pakistani state institutions have tried to press us and have used security apparatus against our Party and party cadre. Those undemocratic forces are still intact and they are ploying against democracy and democratic institutions in their own country. Those forces don’t want to see strong democratic institutions and don’t want the system of transparency and accountability. It was our desire that Pakistan should be a democratic and progressive country. And that democratic Government should formulate such pro-people policies which strengthen democratic instructions and unemployment, poverty and communalism could be rooted up from the entire society and such forces could be defeated.
Journalists: It is irony that Pakistani state security institutions have formulated the policies of personal liking and disliking and that nepotism and violations of merit are prevailing. Even sacred institutions like judiciary are not safe from such policies of these people. The whole system is corrupt and state institutions have been deteriorated badly.

Dear Journalists: Gilgit Baltistan is integral part of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Our problems are common and their socio-economic problems are our own. We know that self-Governance and empowerment package given by Pakistan is result of the international diplomatic pressure from various quarters. Especially United Kashmir People’s National Party is tirelessly highlighting backwardness of both regions under Pakistani administration. United Kashmir People’s National Party has immediately reacted nationally and internationally and have organised seminars and demonstrations in Brussels and United Kingdom and draw the attention of world community towards grave situation developing in these areas after the so called package. We have been demanding since years that Government of Pakistan should recognise constitutional, political, democratic, and socio-economic and human rights of the people of this region, despite given them fundamental rights and freedoms Islamabad has imposed Governor Rule on this region after 63 years. Legally Pakistan has no locus standi to impose such package on these areas. Today ruling elite has raided these areas with full of charming slogans. Today they have got vote of the local people by befooling them. Both factions of Pakistan Muslim League, National Awami Party, and MQM have used their resources and political influence in the centre and provinces.
Journalists: It is regrettable and highly condemnable that MQM has asked local people to give them some space in Karachi, while PML (N), has used its full influence and announced that the student quota of these areas shall be increased in educational institutions of Punjab and ANP did the same announcement. Whereas Pakistan people’s Party (PPP), has used Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Income support program to grab the votes of the local people. The caretaker Governor was looking after the whole election process and was running PPP candidates campaign to install their own party Government there. Gilgit Baltistan Democratic Alliance is amalgam of nationalist political parties from the region has out rightly rejected package and electoral. The popular leadership was ousted and kept marginalised of recent elections. We have expressed solidarity with the people of Gilgit Baltistan and we stood with them and would always support democratic endeavour. We have deep concern over the violation of state subject rule in Gilgit Baltistan and we condemn expansionist designs of Islamabad. Demographic changes shall be resisted in these areas and we warn those institutions to respect state subject rule.

Dear Journalists: We believe that the policies of PPP led Government is continuation of the policies of military mindset of the past. We demand that Prime Minister of Pakistani Administered Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider should take pragmatic steps to alleviate sense of deprivation in Gilgit Baltistan. If they truly believe that Gilgit Baltistan is part of the state then they should visit over there. We would suggest that Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan, Sardar Atiq Khan should visit Gilgit Baltistan and Mr. Amman Ullah Khan head of JKLf (his own faction), should host these leaders over there.
We have strong resentment over the prevailing situation in both regions of so called Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. Our fertile lands have been turned into jungles and means of production and mode of production have been badly destroyed. The local authority at Muzaffarabad has also failed to address grave issues like poverty, ignorance, unemployment and underdevelopment. The world has seen poor performance of these while elephants that are using public money but there is no change on the ground. The earthquake victims of 2005 are still wandering between ERRA and SERA offices. Pragmatically they have been left unattended and abandoned by the state institutions. Through this press conference we are demanding world community and donor agencies to come directly and invest on the ground so that fundamental social infrastructure could be developed and poverty and unemployment could be reduced in the society. The press conference was addressed by President of District Poonch Mr. Tanveer Azam, General Secretary Asad Nawaz, Zonal deputy General Secretary Nasir Sharif khan and central leader Mansoor Tahir and Khalid Maqsood was also present.
