Wiring the media camp: how to share your internet connection using Firestarter

From time to time, there are situations where you want to share your internet connection with other computers. Here at the Indymedia.be media camp at Sfinks festival, such a trick was necessary: our photo team was working in a space that could not be wired. Although we picked up the Wifi from the video team's space, not everyone in the photo team had a laptop. So we needed a way to share the Wifi connection with some pc's with ethernet network cards. (Of course, we could've gotten some USB Wifi sticks, but that's beside the point.)

Luckily, with the Ubuntu/Linux systems we use, this seemed to be quite easy using Firestarter. After some trial and error (emphasis on error), I stumbled upon ckrueger's write up on how to get Firestarter to work, with DHCP (which was a big red cherry on top). Following the steps outlined in his post, I got Firestarter to work in less than 10 minutes. Thanks ckrueger!
