Climate Action Now!

Klimaatactiekamp
3-9 augustus 2009, op de Belgisch-Nederlandse grens, vlakbij Antwerpen

Op 30 november 2009 komen regeringen van over de hele wereld in Kopenhagen bijeen voor de vijftiende VN klimaatconferentie (COP-15). Het wordt de grootste top over klimaatswijziging ooit. Nochtans brachten vorige bijeenkomsten niets dan business as usual.

Eens te meer beweren zij die het probleem creëerden dat ze ook over oplossingen beschikken: emissiehandel, zogenaamde ‘propere steenkool,’ meer kernenergie, biobrandstoffen, zelfs een ‘groene new deal.’ Dit zijn geen echte oplossingen. Het is tijd om die illusies achter ons te laten en verder te gaan!

Er bestaan alternatieven voor de huidige marktconforme aanpak. Fossiele brandstoffen moeten blijven waar ze zitten: in de grond. In de plaats moeten we inzetten op hernieuwbare energie onder controle van de gemeenschap. We moeten overproductie voor overconsumptie een halt toeroepen. Iedereen moet het recht hebben op een gelijke toegang tot de global commons, via democratische controle door de gemeenschap en soevereiniteit over energie, bossen, grond en water. En uiteraard moeten we de historische verantwoordelijkheid onderstrepen van de mondiale elite en het mondiale rijke noorden voor deze crisis. Rechtvaardigheid tussen noord en zuid is essentieel. Er is geen oplossing voor de klimaatscrisis zonder drastische herverdeling, zowel tussen noord en zuid als binnen de landen van het noorden en het zuiden. Als we prioriteit geven aan de planeet in plaats van aan winst, en aan solidariteit in plaats van concurrentie, is het perfect mogelijk een geweldig leven te leiden zonder de aarde te vernietigen!

Op basis van deze uitgangspunten vonden een reeks milieubewegingen, jongerengroepen, lokale organisaties en individuen uit België en Nederland mekaar om deze zomer samen een klimaatactiekamp op te zetten. In navolging van de Britse en Duitse klimaatkampen staat dit kamp voor een week van vorming, directe actie, ontmoeting en uitwisseling. We pogen het kamp zo koolstofneutraal als mogelijk te organiseren. Op die manier trachten we bij te dragen aan de opbouw van een klimaatbeweging die de klimaatcrisis bij de wortels aanpakt.

We willen het kamp zo inclusief mogelijk maken, en nodigen iedereen die onze visie deelt uit om mee te doen. Het kamp is een plaats voor iedereen die genoeg heeft van de lege regeringsretoriek en de greenwashing van bedrijven, voor iedereen die bezorgd is dat de kleine stappen die nu worden gezet niet voldoende zijn om het probleem aan te pakken op de schaal die nodig is, voor iedereen die denkt dat het huidige klimaatbeleid de ongelijkheid en onrechtvaardigheid enkel dreigt te vergroten, en voor iedereen die bezorgd is over onze toekomst, en er iets aan wil doen. Het is niet enkel een plaats voor ervaren activisten, maar ook voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is, wil bijleren, en eventueel actief wil worden.

Doe mee! Kom naar het kamp, of nog beter, engageer je al tijdens het voorbereidingsproces. Wij zijn allemaal vrijwilligers, en alle hulp is welkom. Uit welke hoek je ook komt, je kan zeker bijdragen.

Vergadering:
Op woensdag 8 april vindt in Vlaanderen een vergadering plaat over het klimaatactiekamp. De bedoeling is om samen te zitten met de mensen die tot nu toe betrokken waren en alle mogelijk geïnteresseerden, en een stand van zaken op te maken over wat moet gebeuren in België om van de mobilisatie en voorbereiding een succes te maken. Iedereen die interesse heeft in het kamp, akkoord is met de uitgangspunten en wil bijdragen, is uitgenodigd! Alle hulp, hoe bescheiden ook, is welkom.

Voorbereidingsweekend:

Agir pour le climat maintenant!

Camp d’action pour le climat
3-9 août 2009, sur la frontière belgo-néerlandaise, près d’Anvers

Le 30 novembre, 2009, des gouvernements du monde entier se réuniront à Copenhague pour la 15e conférence de l’ONU sur le climat (COP-15). Il s’agit du plus large sommet jamais vu sur cette question. Toutefois, les réunions précédentes n’étaient que business as usual.

Une fois de plus, ceux qui ont créé le problème disent qu’ils disposent aussi des solutions: échange des droits d’émission, charbon soi-disant propre, plus d’énergie nucléaire, agrocarburants, même un ‘new deal vert’. Mais ce ne sont pas de vraies solutions. Il est temps de laisser ces illusions derrière nous et d’aller plus loin !

Il existe des alternatives à l’actuelle approche conforme au marché. Les carburants fossiles doivent rester où ils sont : dans le sol. Il faut au contraire investir dans l’énergie renouvelable sous contrôle démocratique de la population et des travailleurs/euses. Il faut arrêter la surproduction pour la surconsommation. Toutes et tous devraient avoir droit à un accès égal au bien commun, via le contrôle démocratique par la communauté et la souveraineté sur l’énergie, les forêts, le sol et l’eau. Et bien entendu, il faut souligner la responsabilité historique de l’élite mondiale et du nord pour cette crise. La justice entre nord et sud est essentielle. Il n’y a pas de solution pour la crise climatique sans redistribution drastique, tant entre le nord et le sud qu’à l’intérieur des pays du nord et du sud. Si on considère la planète avant les profits, et la solidarité avant la compétition, il est parfaitement possible de bien vivre sans détruire la planète !

Sur base de ces principes, une série de mouvements écologiques, groupes de jeunes, organisations locales et individus de Belgique et des Pays-Bas se sont ressemblé/es pour organiser un camp d’action pour le climat cet été. Comme les camps brittanniques et allemands, ce sera une semaine d'ateliers, d'actions directes, rencontres et échanges. Nous essayons d’organiser le camp d’une façon aussi neutre que possible sur le plan des émissions CO2. Avec ce camp, on essaye de contribuer à la construction d’un mouvement qui s’attaque aux racines de la crise climatique.

Nous voulons un camp inclusif, et invitons tout le monde qui partage notre vision d’y participer. Le camp est un lieu pour tou-te-s celles et ceux qui ont marre de la rétorique gouvernementale creuse et du greenwashing des entreprises, pour tou-te-s celles et ceux qui s’inquiètent que les petits pas qui sont entrepris aujourd’hui sont largement insuffisants pour résoudre le problème à l’échelle nécessaire, pour tout-te-s celles et ceux qui pensent que la politique climatique actuelle ne va qu’aggraver l’inégalité et l’injustice, et pour tou-te-s celles et ceux qui sont inquièt-e-s pour notre futur, et qui veulent y faire quelque chose. Ce n’est pas seulement un lieu pour des activistes expérimenté/es, mais pour tout le monde qui est intéressé/e, qui veut apprendre quelque chose, ou veut devenir actif/ve.

Climate Action Now!

Belgian/Dutch Climate Action Camp
August 3-9 2009, near Antwerp

On November 30th, 2009 the governments of the world will come to Copenhagen for the fifteenth UN Climate Conference (COP-15). This will be the biggest summit on climate change ever to have taken place. Yet, previous meetings have produced nothing more than business as usual.

Once again, the people who created the problem are telling us they also have the solutions: carbon trading, so-called "clean coal," more nuclear power, agrofuels, even a "green new deal." But these are not real solutions, they are neoliberal illusions. It is time to move beyond these illusions.

There are alternatives to the current course that is emphasising false solutions and market-based approaches. If we put humanity before profit and solidarity above competition, we can live amazing lives without destroying our planet. We need to leave fossil fuels in the ground. Instead, we must invest in community-controlled renewable energy. We must stop over-production for over-consumption. All should have equal access to the global commons through community control and sovereignty over energy, forests, land and water. And of course we must acknowledge the historical responsibility of the global elite and rich Global North for causing this crisis. Equity between North and south is essential.

It is with all this in mind that environmental organisations, youth groups, community organisations and individuals from throughout Belgium and the Netherlands have come together to create this summer's Camp for Climate Action. Taking inspiration from both the UK and German climate camps, our camp will be a week-long event focusing on education, direct action, carbon-neutral living and movement building. This is our way of building a climate justice movement capable of tackling the root causes of climate change.

We want the camp to be as inclusive as possible and we are reaching out to all those who share our vision. The camp is a place for anyone who's fed up with empty government rhetoric and corporate spin; for anyone who's worried that the small steps they're taking aren't enough to match the scale of the problem; for anyone who thinks present climate policies are only increasing inequalities and injustices; and for anyone who's worried about our future and wants to do something about it. It is not only a place for experienced activists, but also for all those who are interested, who want to learn more, and are looking for ways to become active.

Get involved! Come to the camp, or, even better, join in the preparation process. We are all volunteers and all help is welcome. Whatever your background, there is a role for you.
