A protest against psychiatric destructive treatments

Kortenberg. Saturday, a team of 27 people members of the Citizens Commission for Human Rights (CCHR) Belgium joined by sympathisers from the Association Sarah did a protest in front of the psychiatric hospital “Universitair Centrum Sint Jozef” at Kortenberg. The demonstrators were wearing a black tee-shirts with the mention “Stop drugging our kids with psychiatric drugs” and on their banners one can read slogans such as “Psychiatry destroys life” and “Psychiatric pills are drugs”. A lady attending the meeting had been committed in this hospital and described how the treatments were horrible and that she even received 23 electrochocs for nothing! Another person described how her brother died in a psych hospital by suffocation due to a lack of care. The protestors were joined by other persons who wanted to testify how bad were the psychiatric treatments.

The demonstrators wanted to raise the awareness of the public about the danger of the psychiatric treatments more and more prescribed despite dozen of international warnings have been issued such as by the Food and Drugs Administration for the USA, the EMEA in Europe, and in other countries.
Regarding children, the Ritaline (Rilatine) prescribed to treat the symptoms (and not addressing the cause) of Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as well as the Concerta, Strattera, and others have recognized dangerous side effects. All the treatments by psychotropic drugs have to be related with the increasing number of violent behaviors of people such as the drama of Dendermonde (2009), Kapellen (2008), Nijvel (2007) to quote some of them.
If we consider the RIZIV (Belgian Institute for health insurances) report for the children in 2007, more than 83% of the Belgian prescriptions for ADHD were concerning Flemish children and mainly in West Flanders. Meanwhile the psychotropic drug consumption by the Antwerpen children represents 20% of the pills taken.

It is seriously time, for the concerned parents, to question about the psychiatric treatments given to their child if they are interested in the safety and in the future of their children.

CCHR was established in 1969, by the Church of Scientology, to expose the violations of human rights by psychiatry and to bring sanity in mental health field.
